How to get to Portree, Skye from Scotland’s Airports

The closest airport to Portree is in Inverness, however, since Inverness airport only deals with U.K. domestic flights, you will have to change flights in the U.K to get there. If you do fly to Inverness, you can get a coach to Portree from Farraline Park Bus Station in Inverness which will take about 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take the train from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh where you can catch the Citylink coach service to Portree.

As most people tend to arrive in Scotland at one of three airports - Prestwick International Airport, Glasgow International Airport, and Edinburgh airport, the best direct route to Portree is by coach from either Glasgow or Edinburgh.

From Glasgow to Portree:

From Glasgow International Airport you can get a bus connection to Glasgow Central and Queen Street train stations, or alternatively take a taxi direct to the bus station. Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow is where you can get a direct link to Portree with the bus company Citylink and the journey takes approximately 6 hours.

From Prestwick International Airport you can get a train to Glasgow Central every 30 minutes. The journey time is around 45 minutes. Thereafter, head to Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow to get the direct Citylink coach to Portree.

From Edinburgh :

From Edinburgh airport get one of the many shuttle services to the city centre which operate frequently, or you can take a taxi direct to the bus station at St Andrew’s Square in the centre. From there you can get a Citylink coach to Portree, but you will have to change buses in Fort William, so it means the journey will take about 8 hours.

It is possible to hire a car and drive there, take a train and then change onto a bus, take a slow scenic rail route and head over on a ferry and then on a bus, or alternatively get a direct bus to the island.
